Association Plans Day of Discussions on Transit Funding
• Are you responsible for planning, programming or funding public transit capital projects?
• Would you like to learn more about transit infrastructure needs in the context of public transportation operating environments?
• Have you ever wondered about the role of the California Transportation Commission in allocating transit funds to your agency?
• Was funding for one of your projects ever delayed at the state level for factors beyond your control?
• Do you have creative thoughts on how to improve the current state process for financing transit capital projects?
If you answered "Yes" to any of these questions, then you need to participate in the first-ever Transit Capital Summit, hosted jointly by the California Transportation Commission and the California Transit Association.
Mark your calendars now for Thursday, October 16th, 2008, and come to Sacramento where the Association and the CTC will bring together state agencies, legislative staff, transit systems, regional agencies and transit advocates, to review the current transit capital funding system, and discuss how to rationalize the processes and procedures going forward.
In the morning you'll hear from transit systems big and small / urban and rural, bus only / multi-modal; Caltrans finance staff; CTC staff; and, from regional transportation planning agency staff. They'll cover the nuts and bolts of public transportation operations, and how transit capital projects are planned, programmed and funded.
Then join the afternoon roundtable on identifying challenges in the current system and developing solutions. This won't be just a "talking heads" summit - we need you to participate in actually crafting the future of transit capital funding at the state level.
