Transit Lobby Day 2010

Association scales back Transit Lobby Day activities

Due to the status of current negotiations regarding state transit funding, the California Transit Association’s Executive Committee has elected to dramatically scope down the size and intent of this year’s Transit Lobby Day, scheduled for Wednesday, March 10. Because ongoing talks in the Capitol are focused on complex and nuanced aspects of state transit funding, but recognizing this effort is not yet completed, the Association determined that it’s not timely to follow the traditional Transit Lobby Day model by inviting all members and advocates to Sacramento and asking them to meet with all 120 legislators to deliver general messages about transit. Instead, selected members of the Executive Committee and Legislative Committee will be meeting in very small-group situations with a targeted list of key legislators, and with selected representatives of the governor’s administration, to discuss the specific details of the proposed gas tax swap and the Association’s desires relative to preservation of transit funding.

To those who had previously registered for Transit Lobby Day but whose presence is no longer requested, the Association extends its sincere thanks for supporting public transportation by registering for the event, and its humble apologies for any inconvenience caused by this change in plans.
